Do you want to communicate with your baby or toddler before they’re capable of speaking? Baby sign language is a great way to talk to your baby and understand their needs. This is a hands-on, interactive class for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers.

Lisette Villadoniga is a certified Baby Signing Time Instructor. She has been signing American Sign Language since 1997 and holds a degree in Deaf and Elementary Education from Flagler College.

Ask the Experts: Baby Edition — Cloth Diapers 101
Friday, March 17th, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Modern cloth diapering has come a long way from flour sack towels and pins! Come learn how easy and affordable it can be. Examples of all kinds will be available for hands-on learning. This class will be taught by Alexandra Phillips, who has been cloth diapering for over two years. Babies and children welcome!

Ask the Experts: Baby Edition — Every Child Ready to Read
Friday, March 24th, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Caregivers and parents, learn how to support the early literacy development of your babies and children through simple everyday activities! Every Child Read to Read is a parent education initiative which many libraries implement through storytimes and hands-on classes. In this class, we will go through a short presentation on the five key elements (talking, singing, reading, writing, playing) and move onto fun corresponding stations for caregivers and children to experience together.

This class will be taught by Youth Services Librarian Alexandra Phillips, MLIS.

Ask the Experts: Baby Edition — Car Seat Safety with Project Buckle Up
Tuesday, March 28th, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Did you know that 80% of car seats are installed incorrectly? Join the St. Johns County Tax Collector’s Project Buckle Up team for a free, informative class on car seat safety. This class will cover infants through adolescents, and include a Q & A session, along with car seat demonstrations and plenty of take-home materials. Children are welcome to attend!

A car seat inspection event will follow on Saturday, April 1 from 10am to 12pm in the parking lot behind the library which will include free inspections of your car seat(s) by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians. Registration is requested for both events.

Whether you’re using your smartphone or the latest DSLR, photographer Amanda Lamosova of Sweet Smiles Photography will teach you how to take beautiful photos of your babies and children! Feel free to bring the little ones with you–they’re the perfect subjects for us to practice on.

Ask the Experts: Baby Edition — Babywearing 101
Saturday, April 22nd, 10:15 am – 11:00 am

Babywearing is the practice of keeping your baby or toddler close and connected to you as you engage in daily activities through the use of a baby carrier. Babywearing promotes bonding, can help combat postpartum depression, makes caregiving easier, and can be a lifesaver for parents of high-needs children.

Learn about the many benefits of babywearing, along with all the varieties of baby carriers, with Babywearing Educator Claire Davies. This class will include demonstrations and hands-on help with your baby carriers.
