The mission of Library Extension Services is to bring library resources and programming to people who might not be able to visit a library branch. Our two bookmobiles travel around St. Johns County to schools, daycare facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and public stops. We participate in annual events such as Ancient City Kids Day, Feel the Wheels, the St. Augustine Christmas Parade, and more.

The Library System offers the Books by Mail service for the convenience of browsing the library’s collection from the comforts of home at your leisure. This is very helpful when work, after school functions, and other obligations are too time constraining to allow ample time to visit a library in person. A monetary charge occurs only if you choose to return your Books-by-Mail items through the US Post Office, Library Rate. There is no charge if dropped off at any St. Johns County Public Library book drop or the Bookmobile.

How does the Books-by-Mail service work?

Once your Books-by-Mail application has been processed, you may request materials through the library’s online catalog or the Books-by-Mail office.

Your books will be mailed to your address on file at no cost to you. You may return your items to any branch library or bookmobile or mail them back at your own expense.

Books-by-Mail patrons who qualify as permanently or temporarily homebound may receive free return postage.

How do I become a Books-by-Mail patron?

To become a Books-by-Mail patron, first become a St. Johns County Public Library Card holder. Then complete an application for Books–by–Mail service. The application can be downloaded HERE, or one can be mailed to you from the Books-by-Mail office.

For free return postage, complete the Certificate of Eligibility for homebound return-postage waiver. The application can be downloaded HERE.

After reviewing your application, Books-by-Mail staff will contact you to confirm your registration in the service.
