    How to Research & Write the Historical Novel

    Whether you’re writing an historical fiction or non-fiction novel, you will want to hear Arliss Ryan as she talks about the fifteen things you need to know to research and incorporate history into an engaging novel.  Ryan is the author of three novels, two of them historicals.  The Kingsley House is set in Michigan and is based on the actual house built by her ancestors.

    Teens and their family and friends are invited to the Southeast Branch to watch this newly released movie. "A group of young Americans with extraordinary psychic abilities must band together and use their different talents on a mission that will enable them to escape a clandestine government agency."  Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

    Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first walk on the moon!  Joseph Walsh, who worked in the Apollo Program from 1961 to 1969, will give a presentation on the lunar module system and the Apollo space program. In addition, Mr. Walsh will provide a display of his Apollo program memorabilia in the lobby of the Southeast Branch Library during the entire month of July.

    ANASTASIA ISLAND: FLYP (Florida Library Youth Program) - Didgeridoo Down Under at 2:00 P.M. in the Large Meeting Room. Didgeridoo Down Under will present an Australia-themed presentation that combines music, art, social studies, environmental education, character building, and audience participation! All FLYP events at our library branch are sponsored by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library. Don't forget to bring your reading log to this event to get it stamped for the days you've read or been read to so you can win a prize for every five days stamped!     ANASTASIA ISLAND: "Are You Afraid of the Dark" Marathon, 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. in the Large Meeting Room. Think Goosebumps, only better!! Everyone is invited to join us for spooky episodes every month this summer (June, July, and August!)! Snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library and the episodes will be projected onto our 14-ft. wide screen, purchased for us by our Friends of the Anastasia Island Branch Library! All children under the age of 10 MUST have a parent or guardian in the library for the duration of the program. Hope to see you there and bring your friends! The last "Are You Afraid Of the Dark" summer marathon will be August 8, also from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the Anastasia Island Branch Library.
