  • Teen Summer Reading Program Movie Event: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

    MovieWednesday, July 31 @ 2pm

    All rising 6th - 12th graders are invited to join us for another fun movie event celebrating our Teen Summer Reading Program and its theme: Beneath the Surface. We will be eating pizza, drinking soda, and watching the popular movie adaptation of a very popular book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (PG-13). All participants will be entered into a raffle for a copy of the book, and those who have read the book and write a short review of it at the party will be entered into a raffle for a copy of the movie. Please continue to submit your Teen Summer Reading Program bookmark reviews (available at all the service desks at the library) at our Reference Desk to be entered into a weekly raffle for free teen books. Our teen book prizes and this event are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

    Celebrate summer time with us cinematically. Each week we'll show a new release with a G or PG rating, so it's fun for the whole family. Please call the Main Library at 827-6940 for movie titles and ratings. We have plenty of pillow seating, lemonade, & organic popcorn, courtesy of Diane's Natural Food Market.

    Bought a new eReader and not sure how to use it? Tired of buying eBooks? The St. Johns County Public Library System has more than 2,700 free eBook titles available through our Overdrive database and we would be more than happy to show you how to read them. Library cardholders can call 827-6940 to make an appointment for 30 minutes of one-on-one help from library staff.

    School's Out GamingWednesdays in July @ 3pm
    School-age children, tweens, and teens choose what they want to play this summer at the Main Library. A selection of video game choices for X-box 360, PS3, & Wii consoles will be offered. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided for players. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County and Sony.

    The goal of the Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP) is to encourage children to become lifelong readers and library users. This year, FLYP celebrates the theme, Dig Into Reading.     It's a Mystery MovieWednesday, July 31 @ 5:30pm
    Join us for an evening out at the movies at your neighborhood library. We'll show a new release film to celebrate our Adult Summer Reading Program, Groundbreaking Reads. Enjoy popcorn & refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County. Movie will have a rating of PG or PG-13.

     

  • FLYP Summer Reading Program: Firefighters to the Rescue

    Meet your local and state firefighting heroes and learn what they must do every day to keep us safe. Explore the vehicles and equipment of the St. Johns County Fire Rescue and learn what you can do to stay safe, too. Also, learn what it’s like to work for the Florida Forest Service during a fire emergency. All of our FLYP events this summer will have a Florida flavor in honor of Viva Florida 500. Please note: This event will take place in the Hastings Recreation Center gym, located at 400 E. Harris Street. Please ensure all guests wear rubber-soled shoes.

     

  • Just For Babies

    Join Miss Kristine and Miss Alex every Wednesday for quality time with your baby or toddler. Enjoy songs, stories, fingerplays, games, and so much more during this lapsit program. Duffy the Storytime Bear is looking forward to meeting you under the parachute. Older siblings are welcome to stick around for Family Storytime right after.

    We will be "Down on the Farm" this summer. Old MacDonald had a farm EIEIO.  And on his farm he had a...GOAT.

    This is our last lapsit storytime for the summer. Make sure to bring in your completed bookmarks for our end-of-season drawing.

    Let's "Dig Into Reading" with some seafaring adventures about pirates. Aarrgh!

     

  • Summer Reading Program: Fractured Fairytales - A Pirate's Life for Me

    Wednesday, July 31 @ 2pm

    skullAarrgh ye ready, landlubbers? It’s time to set sail for adventure with Captain Kristine and First Mate Alex. Turn in your completed reading log and be transformed into a pirate – you’ll even get a new pirate name. Then help the Captain and First Mate tell a classic fairytale story (all wrong, of course). The treasure map in the story will lead you to the treasure and the special guests that hold it.

    Parents, please note that this program will take place (mostly) outside and that your child will get wet. Appropriate swimwear and cover-ups are permitted; shoes are required.

    This program for school-aged children is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

     

  • Children's FLYP Event: Meet Your Local Super Heroes and Ice Cream Party

    This program will be held indoors in case of rain.

    We've saved our best program for last. Come out and meet your local super heroes. You can explore the fire truck and meet real firefighters, then celebrate your summer reading with ice cream.   • Family Storytimes at Bartram Trail

    Storytimes are every Wednesday through July 31st. This program is geared toward a wide range of ages including families with toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children.
