First Friday Book Club

Whistling Past the GraveyardFriday, March 6 @ 10am

In Mississippi in the summer of 1963, nine-year-old Starla Claudelle runs away from her grandmother’s home where her teenage parents left her years earlier. Upon reaching the countryside, Starla is offered a ride by Eula, a black woman traveling with a white baby. Starla accepts the ride hoping it will help her reach her mother in Nashville. As she travels with Eula, Starla experiences firsthand the harsh realities of Southern segregation and realizes the true meaning of family.  New members are always welcome.
