genealogy clubThe 1935 Labor Day hurricane destroyed an automobile highway being built by Bonus Army vets alongside the path originally blazed by Henry Flagler.  More than 200 WWI vets on the project were killed.  Join us as we examine evidence left by some of the veterans and learn how you can use similar records to research your ancestors from this time period.

Thomas Graham, professor emeritus of history at Flagler College, will discuss his latest book, Mr. Flagler’s St. Augustine. This work traces oil magnate Henry M. Flagler’s quest to transform the nation’s Oldest City into a highly desirable vacation destination for the rich, eventually expanding his coastal empire to encompass Palm Beach, Miami, Key West, and finally Nassau. Join us as Graham brings fascinating details of the Gilded Age to life. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Bartram Trail Branch Library.
