FLYP Event: Jacksonville Zoo to You

Bartram Trail’s FLYP Programs take place at 10am on Thursdays.  Each program is held at the Family Activities Building (FAB) at Switzerland Community Church located at 2179 State Road 13.   Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that FLYP Programs are geared toward the school-age child.  Strollers and street shoes will not be permitted in the building.  Contact the library at 827-6960 for additional information.  Join us on July 23 when the Jacksonville Zoo will bring a variety of animals for us to see and learn about!

Children's Book Week Contest

May 4-10th @ Main Library
Main Library is celebrating Children's Book Week May 4th - May 9th. Kids of all ages are encouraged to stop by The Randolph Caldecott Children's Room at Main Library to share their favorite children's book. Simply fill out one of our book signs with the your name and the title of your favorite book and we will place it on our display. Check out some of your neighbor's favorites while you're at it. Be sure to enter our drawing for free books too! Ask at the Children's Desk for more details.  Sponsored by The Friends of Main Library St. Augustine.

This week we welcome the US Navy Band! Come and listen to their musical medleys of patriotic songs, classic Americana and Jazz!

FLYP SUMMER PROGRAM: Sea Turtle Heroes!

Thursday May 28 @ 4 pm
The Florida Library Youth Program continues at Main library with a special edition featuring our heroes at The Guana Tolomoto Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Come learn all about Sea Turtles and how the GTM Reserve is working hard to protect our aquatic friends. Seating is limited so be sure to arrive early. Ages 6-16 only please. Sponsored by The Friends of Main Library St. Augustine.

 

May "Just for Babies" and Family Storytimes

storytimeBird Island Park's Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Gail present programs for little ones at the library!

Just for Babies - Held Thursdays, May 14 and May 28 at 10:15am; for babies up to 15 months and their caregivers. This infant lapsit is designed for one-on-one interaction between caregiver and baby. Families with multiple children are encouraged to attend Family Storytime.

Family Storytime - Held every Thursday morning in May at 11am; for children 16 months - 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away. For more information on system-wide library storytimes, please go here. Please note:  May 7 at 11 am is our special Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra program for preschoolers, Musical Storybooks!

Thank you to Ms. Gail and Ms. Suzanne - our wonderful library and Bird Island Park volunteers - for providing storytime programming during May, a program planning month for our Youth Services Librarian Anne Crawford to get ready for our Summer Reading Programs for kids and teens!

 

Children's Book Week: Musical Storybooks presented by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet

Join us in celebrating Children's Book Week with a very special storytime featuring the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Mole Music by David McPhail! Youth Services Librarian (and former clarinetist!) Anne Crawford, the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, are partnering to invite Kindergartners - 5th graders and their caregivers to celebrate the magic that is music! In culmination of the Musical Madness for Kids series, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra will present a special Musical Storybooks program for preschoolers and their families featuring children's book Mole Music by David McPhail and the String Quartet. Come get a taste of the magical world of classical music!

Please note:  the Musical Storybooks program is geared toward preschoolers. If you wish to bring younger children to any of these programs, please be mindful of the decorum expected for everyone's enjoyment. This special music series is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

 

Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

Thursday, May 14 from 10am - 12:30pm 

childrenChildren ages 3 - 5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.

 

LEGO Club for Tweens

LegoWednesday, May 20 from 3pm - 4:30pm
Tweens in 4th - 7th grades (ages 9 - 13) are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out! No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too. All young LEGO lovers, please enjoy our brand-new LEGO table in the Children's Department, purchased by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, so that this special program may just be for the Tweens!

 

After-School Crafts with Teens (CANCELED)

This program will not be held in May due to the Arts in Motion Club Nease High School teens taking exams! This program series will return in September. Thank you to the teens of the Arts in Motion Club and the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for making these wonderful programs possible!
