Children's FLYP Event: SingleVision

Held at Switzerland Community Church (2179 State Road 13)
Extinction is forever but you can help. Visit with our animal guests and learn from SingleVision how you can protect rare wildlife. Children of all ages may attend; please be aware, however, that FLYP programs are geared toward the school-age child. Strollers and street shoes will not be permitted in the building.  Contact the library at 827-6960 for additional information. National Library Week Kick-Off Event: Sesame Street Festival

National Library Week 2014 
Saturday, April 12 from 10am - 11:30am

Does your little one love Elmo? Do you have fond memories yourself of Sesame Street? The whole family is invited to celebrate this year's National Library Week theme "Lives change @ your library" by coming to our Sesame Street Festival for crafts, dancing with bubbles and shaky eggs, a Sesame Street book display, chalk art, games, puppets, pictures with our Sesame Street backdrop and our 3-foot plus Elmo doll, and so much more! Please bring your own camera for any pictures you wish to take and wear your favorite Sesame Street attire if you wish. This special event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

Elementary students and beginning readers are invited to join our volunteer therapy dogs for a barking good time. Read your favorite stories to these clever canines and become a member of the Read to Rover Frequent Reader Club. Don't miss this great experience.

National Library Week 2014Free Nemours BrightStart Screenings for Ages 3 - 5

Children ages 3-5 are invited to receive a free, 10-minute Early Literacy Screening at the library, courtesy of Nemours BrightStart. Registration is taken on a first-come, first serve basis by a Nemours representative. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lay and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school. This special monthly offering is yet another reason to love your library - happy National Library Week.

Wear your PJs to this special session of our regular Wednesday storytime where we do storytime backwards. Arts and crafts come first and then we will wind down with some favorite stories. This is a family program that is suitable for all young children.

Kids, spend your Wednesday afternoon being a paleontologist by digging for real fossils collected from the Peace River in Southwestern Florida. See if you can guess the type of animal the fossils came from. Also, watch a prehistoric creature-feature while decorating your own dinosaur cookies.

 


National Library Week 2014LEGO Club for Tweens: Ponte Vedra

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, tweens in 4th-7th grades are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out. No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Tween girl Lego lovers, we want you to join our club, too. We love our tweens and that they use our library - happy National Library Week.

Hey kids, have you been thinking about starting a coin collection? Then you'll want to come to the "Introduction to Coin Collecting for Kids" program presented by the Greater Jacksonville Coin Club. You'll learn about the history of U.S. coins, how they are made, where the mints are located, and get to see coins like half cents, Flying Eagles, Indian Head cents, half dimes, half dollars, and many more. In honor of Earth Day, children, teens, and families are invited to view a film about an adorable baby chimp named Oscar and his entertaining approach to life in a remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph. Every 4th Wednesday of the month, the whole family is invited to the library to play board games, including Monopoly, Connect Four, Candy Land, Scrabble, Chutes & Ladders, Uno, and many more. Simply use your library card, or driver's license, to check out the games. All board games - including our new ones (Trivial Pursuit Family Edition, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Don't Drop the Egg, Super Mario Brothers Checkers, and Apples to Apples Disney Edition) are provided by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.
