Writing a historical novel may look like fun—until you discover how much work and research is involved. This program provides solid tips for researching and writing an engaging, accurate historical novel, including accessing and evaluating Internet and traditional sources, differentiating between historical fact and speculation, developing a convincing historical vocabulary, and getting into the mindset of people living in centuries past. Presented by Arliss Ryan, author of three novels, two of them historicals. Brought to you by the Florida Writers Association Ancient City Chapter & the Friends of the St. Johns County Library.
International Games Day @ Main Library

NaNoWriMo @ the Main Library
Tuesdays in November: 6, 13, 20, & 27 @ 5 pm
National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000-word (approx. 175 page) novel by 11:59:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel, but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. We'll provide writing space & refreshments each Tuesday for any NaNoWriMo participants!
One Stroke Painting Class for Beginners with Charlene

One Stroke is a learned art form pioneered by Florida resident Donna Dewberry. No experience necessary. Come and learn some basic painting strokes, and make a fun craft at the same time. Literary Lions Book Club: Any Book by Edna Buchanan

Edna Rydzik Buchanan was born in 1939 near Paterson, New Jersey. Buchanan was one of the first female crime reporters in Miami. Her police reporting for the Miami Herald won her a Pulitzer Prize in 1986. She is perhaps best known, however, for her mystery novels featuring a Cuban American crime reporter, Britt Montero. These titles include Contents Under Pressure; Miami, It's Murder; Suitable for Framing; Margin of Error, and Act of Betrayal. Enjoy sharing your thoughts of any of Buchanan's books, along with coffee & refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

A gentle lapsit program with action rhymes, fingerplays, and first books for babies. For infants & pre-walkers only, please.
Toddler Time 11 am
We'll sing, we'll dance, and share our excitement for books and learning at the library. Don't be shy and bring your dancing shoes!
Preschool Storytime 11:30 am
"Big Kids" get a storytime of their own. Longer stories, a variety of early literacy concepts, listening, and pre-classroom skills. Perfect for 3-5 year olds.

Gentle Stretching With Gina

This FREE class emphasizes stretching, coordination of breath with movement, and attention to alignment. It is designed to create breath awareness, enhance balance, & increase flexibility. Stretching is great for those who experience joint sensitivity, or overall stiffness. Wear loose clothing, bring a towel & mat. Presented by licensed yoga instructor, Gina Mercado.
