Mainly Books Reopens

April 28 - May 3
The Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine are celebrating the reopening of the Mainly Books bookstore with a special week-long sale. All books under the red and white striped awning are $2.00 and titles from the Book Nook are $1.00. There will also be daily prize drawings and refreshments in the bookstore all week. Mainly Books is open Monday through Saturday from 12pm to 3pm.

Needlework with Friends The Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine would like to invite you to a new program. We will meet the first and third Monday of each month, beginning on May 19th. Main Library Renovation

The St. Johns County Main Library will be closed through April for renovations and improvements that include a complete update of the restroom facilities and the reconfiguration of the Children’s Library and Adult Reading Area. Patrons wishing to utilize hold services during the closure should contact the Main Library at 827-6940 to designate a secondary pick up location. The book drop will remain open for items to be returned. Any items that would have normally been due during the closure will not be due until May 1. SJCPLS thanks patrons for their patience and understanding during the renovation period.


Brown Bag Lunch - Dr. Dorothy Israel

Dr. Dorothy Israel presents "Revisiting the African American Experience."  As we celebrate 50 years since the passage of the Civil Rights Act, Dr. Israel will share her thoughts on the contributions of African Americans in St. Augustine. She will take her audience on a surprising journey that begins before Africans landed in St. Augustine through to today's experiences that influenced this city that we love. Bring your Brown Bag Lunch and come join us for this special program. Light refreshments will also be served. This program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public.

Painting With Acrylics

Seniors and adults, discover art through the Library and its resources. Those who have never held a paintbrush, mixed colors, or created a personal masterpiece will have the opportunity to do so completely free of charge. This workshop is sponsored by the St. Johns Cultural Council and the State of the Arts License Plate Program and the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County. Interested artists should call 827-6940 to sign up for the workshop.

Falun Dafa: Exercises & Meditation for the Body

Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a traditional Chinese self-cultivation practice that improves mental and physical wellness through a series of easy-to-learn exercises, meditation, and the development of one's xinxing or heart-mind nature. St. Johns Reads Event: Patrick Smith's Florida Documentary

Spend an hour with one of Florida’s favorite writers, Patrick D. Smith, as he takes you on a nostalgic journey to a Florida that exists today only in books. From this documentary, you'll get to know both the author, and the state of Florida, better as this soft spoken gentleman introduces you to the Florida of his youth. You'll be touched by the true stories of his adventures along the way to writing his books, many of which are now modern-day classics. Light snacks provided by the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.
