The goal of the Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP) is to encourage children to become lifelong readers and library users. This year, FLYP celebrates the theme, Dig Into Reading. Please join us this summer for our exciting, FREE programs, sponsored in partnership with the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County. We look forward to sharing our love of reading and libraries with YOU!

Understanding Your Unconscious Mind with Dave Shave

The conscious mind is a remarkable thing but there's a whole other level of awareness that, when tapped, can greatly expand your abilities and allow you to achieve your goals in life. Join writer Dave Shave for this FREE four-part workshop. Author of several books including Small Talk-Big Cure and Emotional Problems and Their Big Deceptions, Shave will share information on exploring your unconscious in order to improve your life and the way you feel.
Tai-Chi: Enter the Healing Journey

You are cordially invited to begin a pleasant and enjoyable journey in the ancient Chinese healing exercise as you learn and practice Tai-Chi. In class, students will perform soft, continuous movements that will allow them to receive many positive aspects of renewed health, while developing internal stillness. Some of the benefits of Tai-Chi include: relief from muscular tension and anxiety, increased concentration and memory, enhanced sensory awareness, and improved balance. This free workshop is presented by Hector M. Ruiz, Jr., a certified instructor in Tai-Chi and Qi Gong.

Viva Florida 500 Event: Florida Root Cookery

Root vegetables and squash that grow well in Florida include beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, radishes, turnips, summer squash, zucchini, and eggplant. A benefit of plentiful crops is a variety of tasty Florida recipes! Share an evening of Florida cooking with guest chef, Matt Ryan, for this special program in honor of Viva Florida 500 and Groundbreaking Reads, our Adult Summer Reading Program. The program is open, free to the public, and sponsored by the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

In this fun and lively presentation, Patricia Charpentier of Writing Your Life walks you through the many approaches to writing personal and family history while giving you tips on how to get started. She uses every day language, humor, and real life examples in discussing how to organize your material and gather your story ideas. This FREE workshop is brought to you through a partnership between the Florida Writers Association Ancient City Chapter and the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.
