Is it scientifically possible to be frozen in Florida in June? All rising 6th - 12th graders are invited to join us to kick off this year's Teen Summer Reading Program, Spark a Reaction, with a throwback to childhood. Enjoy old-school fun such as snow cones, bubbles, board games, chalk art, the new Disney movie starring Olaf the snowman, and so much more. Vote on your favorite childhood book that will become a display in our Children's Department. Devour pizza, sodas, and snow cones with your friends and pick up your Teen Summer Reading Program bookmark reviews to win free teen books this summer. Thank you to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for generously sponsoring this event.
Thursday, June 26 @ 3:30pm
The whole family is invited to join us for a special local children's author visit by Susan Calfee, the picture book author of St. Augustine A to Z: A Young Reader's Guide to America's Oldest City and enjoy making fun Florida crafts afterwards. Susan lives in Ponte Vedra and conceived her book right in our very library. See how much you know about our historic city with this interactive storytime for all ages. Copies of the book will be available for sale, with an author signing afterwards. Proceeds go to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library, which gives us money for library books, programs, and more. Curious about the book? June 16 - August 2
We encourage all rising 6th-12th graders to stop by the Reference Desk to pick up reading bookmark reviews and participate in our Summer Reading Program which begins on June 16. Read whatever you like, write a short review for each book, and turn them in at the Reference Desk. All reviews will be entered into a weekly raffle for free teen fiction books from our prize cart. With your permission on the bookmark, your reviews may be posted to our library's website. At the end of the summer, three grand prize winners will each receive a gift certificate to The Bookmark, a great used book store in Neptune Beach. All prizes are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.
Wednesday, June 18 @ 4pm
Tweens in 4th-7th grades (ages 9 - 13) are invited to the library for an afternoon of building with Legos and hanging out. No registration is necessary and it's free. Thanks to our Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library for providing the Legos for this very special program just for Tweens, including our pink Legos. Utilize this free screening to find out where your child's literacy strengths lie, and what you can do to help them improve in any other areas before they start school.
