Naturally Native: Yardening with Florida's Native Plants

Learn how to "yarden" using plants native to Florida from Renee Stambaugh of Native Plant Consulting & Native Gardens Nursery. Which plants do well in different areas of your yard? Renee has lots of suggestions so you can have successful planting and growth. Plants will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

Her classical yoga style focuses on proper alignment and core strength, with a focus on safety. We encourage you to bring your own water and yoga mat or towel to use during this free one-hour class. Note: it is advised to not practice yoga with a full stomach.

Citizen CPR

Southeast Book Club: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

The Storied Life of A.J. FikryThe irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books, has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children's section with a note from her mother saying she can no longer raise her. It doesn't take long for the locals to notice the transformation of both bookstore and owner, especially to the lovely yet eccentric sales rep, Amelia Loman. Join us to discuss this funny and tender tale by Gabrielle Zevin. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Women's Self-Defense Series

Saturdays, May 23 and 30 @ 10:30am

All American Martial ArtsAll American Martial Arts presents a free series covering all aspects of women’s personal safety, self-defense techniques, practical application, and statistics. All participants should bring a notebook and pen or pencil. Participants are expected to attend both classes, held at 10:30am on May 23 and 30. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please call the Library at 827-6900 to reserve your spot.

*Due to the mature content discussed and self-defense techniques taught, this course is designed for women ages 18+, however, a parent, relative, or guardian can accompany their daughter, niece, granddaughter, etc., ages 13-17. For more information, call All American Martial Arts at 797-2262.

Who says kids get to have all the fun? Adults, Escape the Ordinary by reading a book of your choice through August 8. Jot down a brief review on our Adult Summer Reading bookmark, and drop it off at the branch to be entered to win free prizes each week. There will be an end-of-summer grand prize winner, too!
