Fear the Library

Trick or treat…NOT! Teens and tweens (Ages 11-18) are invited to spend the spookiest night of the year playing a game of pranks and treats-gone-wrong. Will you be fated to eat chocolate covered creepy crawlies? Or will it fall to you to mummify your best friend in toilet paper? This event will be hosted by Miss Kristine and Miss Alex and is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library. Call Kristine at 827-6900 for more information.

 

Teen Pumpkin Carving

Enter our pumpkin carving contest. Teens and tweens (Ages 11-18) are invited to join us for an autumn afternoon of pumpkin art and hot chocolate. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED if you would like to carve a pumpkin. Please call 827-6900 to register. All pumpkins and supplies provided by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library. 


Teen Coffeehouse

Calling all teen artists, poets, and scholars: come share your drawings, sketches, poems, stories...anything. We will meet in the Teen Lounge and share our art and the art of others.  Bring your sketchbooks, journals, and your own coffee mug and we'll fill it with decaf coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or apple cider. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

This month, learn how to make your own mini-movies with Animoto.  You may bring your own iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or smartphone, but it is not required.

 

Read to Rover @ Ancient City Kids Day

Who let the dogs out? Elementary students and beginning readers are invited to join our volunteer therapy dogs for a barking good time. Read your favorite stories to these clever canines and become a member of the Read to Rover Frequent Reader Club. Don't miss this great experience.

The dogs will NOT be at the Southeast Library this Saturday.  This week Read to Rover will be held downtown at Francis Field for Ancient City Kids Day.  Look for the bookmobile!

Bedtime Storytime: Boo to You

Let's celebrate Halloween early. We will read stories about friendly monsters, ghosties and beasties, and Halloween and will go on a treasure hunt around the library for some spook-tacular goodies. Come dressed in your cutest or scariest Halloween costume and get ready to do the Monster Mash. This is a family program that is suitable for all young and school-aged children.

This event will be hosted by Southeast Teen Volunteers in celebration of Teen Read Week. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Star Wars Reads Day

star warsSaturday, October 5th from 2pm - 5pm

In a library far, far away... come celebrate everything Star Wars. We will have trivia, arts and crafts, prize drawings, and so much more. Drop in at your convenience; activities will run continuously during the three-hour event. Feel free to wear your Jedi robes – and don’t forget your lightsabers. May the force be with you!

 

Homeschool Hoopla

Join our homeschool group... right after storytime. Starting at 12pm, socialize with other homeschool kids and parents during a bring-your-own brown bag “Library Lunch." Then, join our Library Lessons class at 12:30pm, where you and your child will learn together how to use library resources, from finding books on the shelf to checking out e-books. We meet once a month and the library lessons presented will be adaptable to all ages. Call Kristine at 827-6900 for more information.

This month's lesson is called "Fairytale or Folktale?"  We will learn the similarities and differences between the two genres and identify some examples here in the library.

 

Family Storytime

Join Miss Kristine and Miss Alex every Wednesday for a fun-filled hour of stories, songs, and crafts. This program is geared toward a wide range of ages including families with toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children.

We will have a Not-So-Scary Halloween storytime today. Come dressed in your cutest or scariest Halloween costume. We'll read some stories, do the Monster Mash, and trick-or-treat around the library.
