Financial Planning Workshop

Thursday, May 2 from 10am - 4pm
In celebration of MoneyWi$e Week, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants will be hosting several free financial planning classes. Sign up for any or all three by calling 827-6900.

10am - 11:30am   "Social Security: Overview and Strategies"                           
1pm - 2pm   "Investing: How to Develop and Implement an Investment Strategy"
2:30pm - 3:30pm   "Tax Planning for Individuals"

 

Children's Book Week Event: Winnie the Pooh Teddy Bear Picnic

Bring your Teddy to the library for Children's Book Week. Children and their teddy bears or favorite Winnie the Pooh characters are invited to celebrate the job and fun of owning a teddy bear with songs, games, stories, and crafts. This event will take place in the Children's Courtyard, weather permitting. Light refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Read to Rover

Who let the dogs out? Elementary students and beginning readers are invited to join our volunteer therapy dogs for a barking good time. Read your favorite stories to these clever canines and become a member of the Read to Rover Frequent Reader Club. Don't miss this great experience. Cookie will be visiting the library today. Read her one of your favorite books or one of the many doggie tales we have at the library.

This will be our last spring Read to Rover session. The dogs will be going on vacation this summer, but they'll be happy to see you again in the fall.

Money Wi$e Week: Teen Coffeehouse - The Art of Saving

Calling all teen artists, poets, and scholars. Come share your drawings, sketches, poems, stories...anything. We will meet in the Teen Lounge and share our art and the art of others. Don't forget to bring your mug - hot chocolate, apple cider, and tea will be provided by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

Celebrate Money Wi$e Week with guest host Steve Shanholtzer, who will let you in on the secrets of cash, credit, and earning a living as an artist (or in his case, a musician).

 

Cinco de Mayo Party

It's fiesta time. Kids are invited to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture with an afternoon of fun. Make your own pinata, listen to some Mexican folktales, and sample some Mexican food at our burrito bar. At 3pm we will be showing some classic Disney cartoons depicting the beauty and excitement of Latin America. ¡Olé! This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library.

 

Movie Night at Southeast (rated PG-13)

Everyone is welcome to join us for our monthly movie night.  We will be showing the final installment of Stephenie Meyer's vampire series.  "After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi."  Light refreshments will be served.

Today is Support Teen Literature Day so come prepared to celebrate and to share your favorite teen books.  We will be Skyping with Laura Lam, author of the young adult novel Pantomime.

 

National Library Week: Community Crafty Saturday

Kids of all ages are welcome to drop by the library anytime this Saturday to make-and-take some really neat crafts and DIY projects.  In celebration of this year's National Library Week theme Community Matters, some of our own community helpers will be on hand to make crafts with you.
