The AARP Tax-Aide program offers free, one-on-one counseling to help individuals prepare basic tax forms, including the 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, and other standard schedules. Counseling is available to all low-to-middle income taxpayers, regardless of age. No advance registration is needed, people will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals must bring a photo ID, last year's tax return, and all relevant tax information with them.

St. Johns Reads Event: Flagler's Train Documentary

Flagler's Train: The Florida Keys Over-Sea Railroad, produced by WPBT2, chronicles the imagination and achievements of Henry Flagler, who spearheaded the development of the over-seas railway connecting Key West to the existing Florida East Coast Railway. Enjoy refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Hastings Branch Library while you watch.

Hastings Branch Friends of the Library Meeting

Thursday, February 12 @ 6pm

Help your library (and your community) by becoming a Friend. Friends do things like staff the bookstore, represent the library at community events, and come up with ideas to raise funds and promote the library. The Friends efforts provide funding for library programming, crafts for storytime, extra library materials and much more. Meetings are the third Thursday of every month for one hour.

Join us to discuss Last Train to Paradise, Les Standiford’s gripping, true account of the extraordinary construction and demise of the Key West Railroad. Flagler accomplished one of the greatest engineering feats ever undertaken, only to have it destroyed in one fell swoop by the Labor Day hurricane of 1935. Come and enjoy a lively discussion.

St. Johns Read Event: Old Florida Museum Tour

Saturday, February 21 @ 1pm

Kids and teens are invited to a free tour of the Old Florida Museum at the Bull's Hit Ranch in Hastings. See antique farming equipment, a crop duster, the old Hastings train depot, a cracker house, and lots of other cool stuff. This treasure trove is right around the corner from the library at the Bulls-Hit Ranch & Farm, 9165 Old Hastings Road. If heading west on 207, take the third right after the Main St. intersection. Meet us there!

St. Johns Read Event: Under Pressure

Wednesday, February 25 @ 3:30pm

Palms in windHurricanes were the bane of Henry Flager as he tried to complete his railroad. His workers regularly checked the air pressure with their homemade barometers. Kids and teens will learn how to make their own air pressure devices, including "kissing balloons" and a vortex air cannon. Also, they will see how to make liquid flow uphill. All of these devices can be replicated at home. Come have fun "under pressure"!
