(Florida Library Youth Program)
June 17 - August 3

All children, birth - 5th grade, are invited to participate in FLYP which includes books and other prizes for reading and fun, weekly performances from magician Mark Alan, LB Reptile Experience, Saltwater Cowgirls, and much more. All performances, the celebratory ice cream party, and the new Scholastic book prizes are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. Use iPod Touches and Mac hard- and software to put together an amazing creation. Instructional Technology Coordinators of SJC Rose Kebe and Jesse Gates will lead this fun-filled workshop. Teen Tech Camp is aimed at students grades 5 – 9.

Is it too hot to be outside? Then come on in and watch a movie on our big screen. We're showing a movie with a G or PG rating, so it's fun for the whole family. Please call the Bartram Trail Branch Library at 827-6960 for movie title and rating. We'll provide the snacks; bring your own drinks.

Tuesday, June 18 @ 6:30pm

Wear your PJs to this special session of our regular Wednesday storytime where we do storytime backwards. Arts and crafts come first and then we will wind down with some favorite stories. This is a family program that is suitable for all young children. Let's "Dig Into Reading" by taking some undersea journeys into the ocean, the sea, and the bottom of a goldfish bowl. Parents, please note that this is the same storytime we will be doing on Wednesday, June 19.

viva florida 500Join us for an exciting Viva 500 event and kick off a summer of reading with the Spud Sisters. Join us for a fun-filled show including stories, songs, and audience participation. All of our FLYP events this summer will have a Florida flavor in honor Viva Florida 500. Please note: This event will take place in the Hastings Recreation Center gym located at 400 E. Harris Street. Please ensure all guests wear rubber-soled shoes.

Celebrate summer time with us cinematically. Each week we are showing a new release with a G or PG rating, so it's fun for the whole family. Please call the Main Library at 827-6940 for movie titles and ratings. We'll have plenty of pillow seating, lemonade, and free organic popcorn, courtesy of Diane's Natural Food Market.

At Southeast, we're digging up the classics. Read these classic stories as a family, then come to the library to see the movie. Please note that this is a family event and children must be supervised at all times. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Southeast Branch Library. Journey under the sea with Captain Nemo in a futuristic submarine called the Nautilus in this exciting science fiction classic. This 1954 live action movie is rated G. Request the book here.

Sea Urchins, Mud Snails, Spiny Lobsters, Starfish, and Horseshoe Crabs are coming to visit the library this summer. School-age children can learn hands-on about Florida marine biology. Discover how the animals breathe, find and eat food, protect themselves and generally survive in their environment. This free program is sponsored in partnership with the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

Hey kids, join the Southeast Snack Attack Club @ 2pm every Friday from June 7th - August 2nd. Enjoy a light snack and listen to Miss Kristine read aloud one of the 2013-2014 Sunshine State Books for grades 3-5. We will continue reading Fake Mustache by Tom Angleberger. Lenny Flem Jr. is the only one standing between his evil-genius best friend, Casper, and world domination as Casper uses a spectacularly convincing fake mustache and the ability to hypnotize to rob banks, amass a vast fortune, and run for president.

In this hands-on program, children will learn about tools and uses of fire in by the Timucuans, a Native American tribe who lived in the Northeast and North Central Florida. The Young Naturalist's Guide to FloridaChildren's FLYP Event: It's Alive! The Wild Side of Florida

Want to know what you can do help protect the "wild side" of Florida? During this special visit by the the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, school-age children will learn ways they can improve natural Florida. Some of the hands-on educational activities include: discovering which critters live in local waters, looking at macroinvertebrates under the microscope, testing water's salinity, dissolved oxygen, measuring turpidity, and viewing Enviroscapes. This free program is sponsored in partnership with the Friends of the Library of St. Johns County.

 

Toddler FestivalToddler Festival: Anastasia Island
Friday, June 28 @ 10:30am

The Kiwanis Club, Nettles Fine Jewelry, and the Early Learning Coalition are partnering with the library to hold a full blown festival for toddlers. We'll have music, games, stories, crafts, and a special Elmo character visit. The folks from Nemours BrightStart are holding early literacy screenings for children ages 3-5 years old. The St. Augustine Police Department will also be here to talk about bike safety and each child will receive a free bike helmet. You'll want to bring your cameras to this extra special event for our youngest patrons.
