AARP Tax-Aide @ Main Library

Tax HelpFebruary 1 - April 14
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 10am - 2pm
The AARP Tax-Aide program offers FREE one-on-one counseling to help individuals prepare basic tax forms, including the 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ and other standard schedules.  The FREE counseling is available to all low to middle income tax payers, regardless of age. No advance registration is needed, people will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals must bring a photo ID, last year's tax return, and all relevant tax information.  
Tax Advisers will NOT be at the Main Library on the following dates:
February:  14  -  March: 2, 3, 17  -  April: 6, 7


Story STOP @ Main Library

Mondays, February 6, 13, & 27 @ 10:30 am
We're into our winter Storytime season!  Start each week off the right way with a Story Stop.  Our friends Chris and Gina host a short reading storytime full of fun stories for all ages in the Children's Department.  If your child loves books you are invited to join us! 

 

Yoga Experience

St. Johns Reads Program: Build Your Own Victory Garden

WWII "war work" extended to the home front and kids worked hard, too! Celebrate St. Johns Reads 2012 as we build our own mini Victory Gardens for kids. We'll learn all about the Victory Garden movement, plant to war-era music, decorate garden boxes with WWII posters, and recognize the valuable work that produced up to 10 million tons of produce! All supplies generously provided by the Friends of the Library and the St. Johns County Master Gardeners.

 

St. Johns Reads Program: Family Evening Movie

After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into a Super Soldier. Now, as Capt. America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. Rated PG-13. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.

After School Gaming

After School GamingThursday, February 9 @ 4 pm
School-age children, tweens, and teens choose what they want to play after school. A selection of video game choices for X-box 360, PS3, & Wii consoles will be offered.  Complimentary snacks and soda will be provided.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Sony.

 

St. Johns Reads Event: Japanese Fairytale Theatre

Saturday, February 11 @ 2 pm
Do you want to hear a story?  Would you like to see a fairy tale unfold?  The colorful images and flowing movements of traditional and modern Japanese performing arts are coming to the library!  Join Animebelle's Fairytale Theatre company as they present a selection of Japanese fairy tales wearing authentic Japanese costumes.  

 

Main Library Celebrates 25th Anniversary!!

St. Johns Reads Program: John Wayne WWII Movie Event

Celebrate St. Johns Reads 2012 with the "Duke." We'll have a selection of John Wayne films set during WWII, and audience members can vote which one they'd like to see. Enjoy popcorn and refreshments while you watch, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

February Storytimes @ Main Library

Join us for all the laughs with books, songs, stories and fun at our Winter Storytime season!  We'll have the following themes this month: Bathtime, Valentine's, Transportation, and Family & Friends. 
So join us on Thursdays, February 2, 9, 16 & 23!

Baby Time 10:15 am
A gentle lapsit program with action rhymes, fingerplays, and first books for babies.  For infants & pre-walkers only, please.
Toddler Time 11 am
We'll sing, we'll dance, and share our excitement for books and learning at the library. Don't be shy and bring your dancing shoes!
Preschool Storytime 11:30 am
"Big Kids" get a storytime of their own. Longer stories, a variety of early literacy concepts, listening, and pre-classroom skills.  Perfect for 3-5 year olds.

 

Adult BINGO for Books!

St. Johns Reads Program: Search for Kennedy's PT 109 Documentary

Embark on a search for the truth about one of the most legendary war stories of the 20th century! Set sail with Dr. Robert Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic, as he attempts to locate John F. Kennedy's sunken torpedo boat, PT 109. Through re-creations, archival footage, eye-witness accounts, and memories of Kennedy family members, you'll relive Kennedy's heroic efforts to save his crew after being attacked by a Japanese destroyer. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.
