Main Library Closed During 450th Celebration

ClosedSeptember 4th through September 8th

Due to the anticipated challenges of traffic and congestion during the 450th Celebration, St. Johns County's Main Library will be closed from Friday, September 4th through Tuesday, September 8th. The library will resume standard business hours on Wednesday, September 9th. Checked-out materials will not be due during this time, though the book drop will remain open. Any materials dropped off will be checked in when the library resumes standard business hours. For more information, please call 827-6928.

Columbia Restaurant Community Harvest The Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine is very pleased to announce that Columbia Restaurant has selected us to participate in their Annual Community Harvest Program. During September the restaurant will donate 5% of selected meal checks to us. Over the past years, the Columbia Restaurant Community Harvest has donated more than $1.6 million to non-profit organizations throughout Florida. Brown Bag Lunch: Balsamic Vinegars - Savory and Sweet

Proprietors of The Ancient Olive, Jeffrey Schrader and Bryan Behling, will discuss traditional and modern production methods for balsamic vinegars, some of which are aged for 18 years. There will be plenty of tastings and some easy recipe ideas for BBQ sauces, fruit, and desserts. The program is free of charge and open to the public. Silent Peace Meditation

Meditation teacher, Kathleen Roberts, will open the group with a short breathing exercise and lead us into a silent meditation, where the participants will think peace. The Hour of Code

Explore computer programming for kids with the world wide Hour of Code! Teens and pre-teens can explore a basic introduction to computer science and even learn basic programming skills using popular video game characters. The lessons increase in difficulty as you move through them so come back each month to improve your skills. This one hour program is designed to demystify code and show that anyone can learn the basics. There will be guided lessons as well as individual and group exploration. You can bring your own laptop or tablet or you can borrow one of ours. Supplies are limited. Florida Writers Association: The Kindle and the Writer

Florida Writers AssociationSaturday, September 19 @ 10am

Author and instructor Patricia Gaydos will present The Kindle and the Writer. She will show attendees how to use Kindle's email service to send text file attachments. She will teach how to turn on the text-to-speech feature to listen to your document. She will also discuss productivity apps, such as Microsoft's free Word app on Kindle to open, write, edit, save, and share Word documents.

This meeting is sponsored by the Florida Writers Association/Ancient City Chapter and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine. All book sales benefit the Friends of the Library. Doors open at 10am. All meetings are free and open to the public.

 

Hypnosis for Relaxation

Blood Drive

Give Blood. Save Lives. The Blood Alliance, a non-profit organization that collects, processes, and distributes blood to our community, will host a blood drive in front of the Main Library on Sept 21st from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Anyone who is in good health, is at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate blood. Picture ID issued by a federal, local, or state government agency is required to donate. Click here to schedule an appointment.

On Bilbo Baggins' eleventy-first birthday, he disappears and leaves a mysterious ring to his young cousin, Frodo Baggins. Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, and other members of the Fellowship continue their journey to destroy the Ring of Power.  Along the way, they meet a strange creature named Gollum. Understanding and Improving Your Credit Score

REGISTRATION REQUIRED. The St. Johns Housing Partnership will present a 2 hour class designed to help families talk about money, manage their money, and build (or rebuild) good credit. The session will include how to get your credit report for free, how to get an estimated credit score for free, how your credit score is calculated, and what improves and damages your credit score. Karen Ball, board-certified reflexologist and director of Academy of Ancient Reflexology in St. Augustine, along with her senior students, will introduce us to the ancient hands-on therapy of reflexology. Following the short lesson, the senior students of the Academy's 2015 315-hour certification program will offer mini hand-reflexology sessions to those attending. While the program is free and open to the public, seating will be limited and reservations are required. Lapsit Babytime is a special storytime program designed for babies 0-12 months of age. It is a lapsit program that features songs, action rhymes, fingerplays and more for you and your baby. Come join the circle in The Randolph Caldecott Children's Room.

Toddler Time is a storytime program designed for children ages 1-3 years of age.  Join us in the Large Meeting Room for a lively program of singing, dancing and stories.

The Main Library One Day Book Sale features books of all kinds and items such as DVDs, CDs, and audio books. Hardback books cost $1.00 and paperbacks cost $.50, with many children's books priced even lower. The book sale is held by the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine as a fundraiser. All sale proceeds support programs and other needs of the Main Library.
